Possibly a B3 air rifle from China

Post by rsteve, Feb/01/2012 at 12:14AM:

I'm very new at this so bear with me! I recently bought a couple of air rifles at a sale. They have the under the barrel cocking lever. I cleaned them up and one of them had some kind of debris on the end of the bolt when cocked back. It even had a couple of bb's lodged in it.

Is the end of the bolt supposed to be clean and shiny or was that some sort of seal?
Also when you load it are you supposed to put the bb in the barrel or on the end of the bolt?
Either way, if you aim the gun down, the bb rolls out the end of the barrel like my old Daisy used to do.

Am I doing something wrong?
You can use my email at <a target=\_blank" href="mailto:rhovious@indiana.edu">rhovious@indiana.edu if you prefer!

Thanks in advance for any help you might provide!

Non-firing Feinwerkbau Sport 124

Reply from duckhtr247, Jan/09/2012 at 09:53PM:

I have just acquired a Sport 124 that has a Beeman scope,to give to my son. It is in unbelievable like new condition. We went to shoot our airguns (I have a RWS 48 that is quite old. I was happy with the accuray, which goes witout saying for their reputation. About 100 pellets were shot out of it and then cleaning pellets were shot out of it before we put it away (3 pellets were inserted for the cleaning). The following week Jason went to shoot it and the barrel cocked and the trigger would release the spring but it would not send the pellet. I removed the barreled action from the stock to check it out. I wanted to take it apart to investigate it further but I wanted to make sure there are no springs under tension (without it being cocked) to shoot out when the barrel assembly and cocking lever were taken apart? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can go with this, if

Reply from Marci, Dec/12/2011 at 08:53PM:

the Win 353 isn't common herebouts: http://anotherairgunblog.blogspot.com/2008_06_08_archive.html

I can probably rig up something suitable enough to serve as a spring compressor; but the nagging question of the recommended non-reactive cleaner remains (I suppose I could always get in touch with the mfgr - forums are a little more personal IMO.)

This looks to be lots of fun!

Well, there's the altitude.

Reply from Marci, Dec/12/2011 at 07:36PM:

Home here near the road's end is above nine thousand feet. Silly of me, I don't doubt, but CO2 cartridges (the seals, specifically) don't inspire trust. I don't have any acquaintances that shoot air guns up here; though this would've almost - almost - justified giving in and buying a suppressed Ruger MK II. . .

I'm getting into the fun stage of physical therapy since going beyond one hundred thirty-five degrees rotation in forward and side lifting - I'm good for about thirty-or-so pounds but no more (my guess was that cocking the pistol wouldn't be much of an issue, but I wouldn't go out-of-bounds with the cocking force of a rifle).

And the Diana's bought and paid for so I'm going ahead with what I have.

A good friend had some shoulder work

Reply from ratite, Dec/12/2011 at 07:17PM:

done so I fixed him up with a 1911-A1 Co2 pistol and a Crosman 357, kept him busy for a few weeks and when he was ready for some shoulder workout I got the 357 back but the 1911 turned in to cash, he said he would never give up such a great companion and all I get back was cash.

I would think about Co2, cocking airguns can put a lot of strain on your shoulder.

Besides what’s better then a good pistol you can shoot in the house and backyard

New to airguns!

Post by Marci, Dec/12/2011 at 06:57PM:

Hi!

I'm laid up after shoulder surgery (so much for archery season), and a nice condition Win 353/Diana 5 in .22cal caught my eye. I wanted something that could keep me from going stir-crazy and something new to learn - and seeing that there are 'smiths out there with great credentials I feel like this will be as much fun as learning my first 1911 over 40 years ago!

I admit to having a fondness for quality steel and a degree of craftsmanship that is harder and harder to find.

Pouring over as much information as possible about the pistol, I see it would probably benefit from a complete strip and cleaning before firing it, and here's where the questions begin to accumulate:

Practically speaking, I only have one serviceable arm for the next couple of months (the doc had to pin cartilage back onto bone and grind off arthritis spurs - it was a real mess), so I'm open to recommendations for exactly how to accomplish that safely. What are the best non-reactive cleaners for the seals, to remove who-knows-what was used as grease/lubricant for the interim decades?

What kind of spring tension (uncocked) is being retained?

Fire away!
